The College Football Newsletter: Roll Tide Real Estate
A roundup of the week at Split Zone Duo, plus notes on Alabama practice viewing, and a reminder about depth charts in training camp.

Welcome to the College Football Newsletter, which you can read from any balcony at your leisure.
We found a college football Rorschach test that you can ponder about this weekend. Alabama is apparently cool with tenants at the nearby Central Park apartment complex watching practice from their balconies, which wasn’t a thing under Nick Saban, lest you face the wrath of former strength coach Scott Cochran. This wasn’t just a courtesy thing; this was actually written in the tenant contracts for a different apartment near the practice field (although apparently the directive did not come from the school itself).
From an outside perspective, this feels like a cool and inviting change for those nearby. But if you have strong feelings about the Crimson Tide, this is definitely your chance to say this signals that they’re cooked PAWWWWWLLLLLLL / Kalen DeBoer is breaking new ground here.
Here’s what the SZD crew dropped this week:
Alex and Richard previewed the ACC. Both are pretty high on Louisville, especially if Mario Cristobal has another game clock flub this season.
Ashtony Jeanty is on the Raiders now, but Boise State is still the crown jewel of the conference. Alex and Richard examined all the changes going on in the Mountain West.
Richard talked about Archie Manning continuing the drum beat that Arch might actually return to Texas next year, rather than enter the NFL Draft over at CBS Sports
In the ACC preview, Richard reiterated that he’s confident in Clemson this season. But he’s probably still not as confident as Dabo Swinney, who recently threw out the idea of being the first 16-0 undefeated team.
Are you playing as the Delaware Blue Hens in your EA CFB dynasty?
It’s a new experience for everyone because the school is in its first year in FBS. Matt Brown at Extra Points talked to Delaware's Athletic Director about how the school is navigating the attention from being in the game. We’ll also use this opportunity to remind you that we’re in the game! Search “SZD State” in the creation center and take the Duos to glory.
Our hosts also write stories about non-CFB subjects:
Alex broke down what happened with Gilbert Arenas over at Slate
In non sports news, is anyone else frustrated about the “new” Trello? Alex says you’re not alone. (The other 50% of Split Zone Duo LLC thinks Trello’s changes are fine)
This episode dropped late last week, but I really encourage everyone to listen to the “Why Do You Love College Football” episode. It’s one of the most touching podcast episodes that I have personally listened to and is a reminder of this great and diverse college football community we’re all a part of.
Have a good weekend! Spend the time doing something more meaningful than a fall camp depth chart.
